Larson Elementary Accelerated Reader Program

The Accelerated Reader Program is a computer-based reading program that encourages reading practice while providing measures for teachers to monitor reading progress. Books registered in the AR system are assigned points based on the complexity of the text in the book. Upon completion of reading, students can take an AR quiz that awards points based on the level of comprehension achieved. Results are reported to the student's teacher. In addition, parents can receive results via email.

To reward the Larson students for their reading, Larson and the Larson PTA conduct an Accelerated Reader Store every six weeks. On the store day, classes visit the library to shop one class at a time. Students can spend their accumulated points for various prizes. The store is stocked with a wide variety of prizes at various point levels, so that the all readers, whether highly proficient or novices, can find something they like. The students love the AR Store and it's always a joy to see their faces as they shop!
